Six Mile Meadow
Planted in June and July 2024, Six Mile Meadow creates an ecologically vibrant and biodiverse community of sedges and herbaceous plants on a site of wet clay that previously contained lawn.
Assembling a palette of competitive plant species, the design initiates a dense fabric of plants intended to resist weed intrusions and thrive on the site’s challenging soil conditions. Beneath two existing hickory trees, a grove of spicebush, along with an area of woodland sedges, helps to mediate between the house and the meadow.
Additionally, an area of shrubland, composed of sumac and spicebush, was planted (September 2024) to begin repairing a forest edge previously disturbed by construction and excavation.
